“Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts.”

Moses had said, “Man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.” Deuteronomy 8:3. And Jeremiah had written, “Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart.” Jeremiah 15:16. The teaching of the prophets made plain the spiritual lesson in the miracle of the loaves. If Christ’s hearers in the synagogue had understood the Scriptures, they would have understood His words, “I am the bread of life.” As the multitude had received physical strength from the bread He had given them the day before, so they could receive spiritual strength from Christ for eternal life. “He who comes to Me,” He said, “shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” But he added, “You have seen Me and yet do not believe.”
They had seen Christ by the witness of the Holy Spirit, by the revelation of God to their hearts. The living evidences of His power had been before them day after day, yet they asked for still another sign. If they were not convinced by what they had seen and heard, it was useless to show them more marvelous works. Unbelief will always find excuse for doubt and will explain away the most positive proof.
“There is nothing more calculated to strengthen the intellect than the study of the Scriptures. No other book is so potent to elevate the thoughts, to give vigor to the faculties, as the broad, ennobling truths of the Bible. If God’s word were studied as it should be, men would have a breadth of mind, a nobility of character, and a stability of purpose that is rarely seen in these times.” Christian Education, p. 58
Heart Questions: Are you longing and thirsting the words of the Lord? Do you enjoy studying the word of God? What is something that has been especially meaningful or brought joy to you in your study of the Word recently? Why don’t you take some time to share that joy with someone today?
- Pray that we all would use the extra time we have at home to study deeply in God’s Word and teach our children how to study and love God’s Word.
- Pray for our family, family members, friends, co-workers who are struggling spiritually, and physically to remain strong and to study His words and that they will find the joy of studying.
- Pray that church members in Antiqua would understand that the Seventh-day Adventist Church is a prophetic movement with a prophetic message entrusted by heaven with a very special prophetic mission, and now is the time to shine for God’s glory.
- Pray for the project of sharing the thousands of books in Inter-America Division
