Day 63 | Walking in the Way of the Lord

Monday, April 4, 2022

And keep the charge of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statures, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself.

-I Kings 2:3

Having served as King for 40 years, David knew that his death was near. He made all efforts to set his house in order as he focused on the succession of his son, Solomon as king after his death. His final charge to his son was: (1) encouragement to be strong, (2) to keep the Word of the Lord and (3) to walk in His ways.  The basic concept was that Solomon should conduct himself in his personal life, and in his role as leader of God’s people, in accordance with God’s Word. In addition, Solomon was to be strong and show himself to be a man by being brave to stand for the right and against the wrong.

David’s desire was for Solomon to be obedient to the decrees, commands, laws, and requirements of the Mosaic Law.  He further reminded him that obedience to the revelation of God’s will would guarantee personal success. Furthermore, obedience would result in God’s fulfilling His promise that David’s descendants would forever occupy the throne of Israel (2 Sam. 7:12–16).  History has it that Solomon in his early years as king was obedient to God’s laws and he was blessed with prosperity, wisdom and enjoyed peace with his enemies.

The source of Solomon’s courage and success was rooted in God. God’s people today need to head the word of David to Solomon, “be courageous and walk in His ways” and experience a transformation that will last for eternity.  We must exercise our faith in God’s word and act in accordance with His will to receive his blessings.  – Contributed by Dr. Milton Gregory

Heart Questions: Do you by God’s grace love the Lord your God and find joy in obeying His Word? How do you deal with the challenges as you walk in His ways? What are your feelings when you have obeyed God’s words and walk in His ways and things don’t work out right for you?

  1. Pray for the joy in obeying God’s word.  Pray as we study God’s word we will get a deeper understanding and share what we are learning to others.
